Family Connections
This section houses all links needed to help you successfully complete items for your "Family Connections."  Remember "Family Connections" is your gateway to post secondary college & career readiness.

Why is this important to you?
  • Teachers will use this platform to also submit letters of recommendation for you.
  • This is the only way to request your transcripts be sent to post secondary institutions or jobs.
  • It provides the most up to date list of scholarships available for LHS students

August 21, 2015
  • As a class, watch the screencast below "Colleges I'm Thinking About & Applying To"
    • Note:  Students had a lesson similar to this last year and they likely added colleges to their list at that time.
    • The Purpose for this lesson is for...
      • students to revise their list as needed
      • them to learn about the transcript request process as this is they only way for students to request transcripts
      • students to learn how to apply to colleges via Family Connections
        • Goal: apply to at least one college before graduation (even if a student is uncertain about college he/she is encouraged to apply to Maple Woods)
    September 23 & 25, 2015

    • Move Colleges you are applying to from "Colleges I'm Thinking About" to "Application List"
      • MUST move AT LEAST one college!!! (video above shows how to do this)
    • Watch the following tutorial in order to learn how to search for scholarships
    • Continue the Scholarship Search on Thursday the 25th
      • Advisory Teachers please check to see that EVERY student adds at least 1 college to their Application List (even if not going to college encourage them to add Metropolitan Community College)
    December 9th
    Resume Directions on Family Connection

    1.     Log on to Family Connection website
    ·      Access is available off of the main LHS Counselor website
    2.     Click on the About Me tab at the top of page
    3.     Click on Resume under Interesting Things About Me
    4.    Enter personal information in each section you want to include on your resume. The sections are in the drop down box under Build Resume Sections- Add New Entry
    5.    After you are finished entering all the desired information- Click Customize Your Printable Resume
    6.     Click Create a New Print Format
    7.     Select the Format you would like to use
    8.     Select your preference to include references
    9.     Click each area you would like to include under Your Resume
    10. Click Save and Close at the bottom of the page

    A few notes:
    ·      You may add additional information in each section by clicking on the section type again.  Example; You can add multiple volunteer experience by clicking on the Volunteer section again after you have entered your initial information.
    ·      The pencil and the dash button on the left of each section are to edit or delete information you have entered.
    ·      If you would like to print your resume, print to the LMC.
    ·      Your information will be saved for future editing.

    Remember:  Keeping an updated list of your activities and accomplishments is important during high school.  The Resume program will allow you to have an ongoing list to keep you prepared for when you need a resume for college, scholarships, program eligibility or employment. 

    A note about references:  Human Resource experts recommend not listing references on your resume unless it is specifically requested.
